One of the concepts we discuss often is the ability to reveal character through banter, without becoming self-absorbed. That’s a tricky balance, and most of the time, air talent has difficulty finding the sweet spot.

There’s a fine line between relating personal experiences and being the audio version of trapping listeners to show them your vacation pictures. Yet most dominant radio shows build their brands because they’re able to share their lives.

 

 

Banter is Purposeful Talk

The key is to master the art of banter. Banter is talk with purpose, as opposed to meaningless chatter.
