Tracy has helped us mold our show in every aspect. From character development to enhancing content. We owe so much of our success to his unique way of bringing out the best in talent! That’s why I call him the Steve Jobs of Radio!

Rick Morton, Host, Z90/San Diego
Tracy Johnson is directly related to the ratings success at Z90.3.  He’s involved in the big picture strategy all the way down to fine-tuning and brainstorming morning show bits and promo copy. Tracy Johnson is a must-have resource. I can’t imagine programming a station without him.
R Dub, Program Director, Z90/San Diego

Tracy taught us that building a winning morning show is all about getting listeners to fall in love with the personalities. Watching this show romance the audience has been exciting and rewarding.

Joe Lindsay, Operations Manager, Z90/San Diego

I was basically the producer of the show, but Tracy and our team saw the potential and helped me become a cohost. Working with this team is awesome!

D Rock, Cohost, Z90/San Diego

If you want to be the best you have to learn from the best and that is Tracy Johnson. Tracy’s character-building technique is what helped me learn how to outshine my competition. He has always been there to help, encourage, and tell the truth (even if you don’t want to hear it, but need to)!”

Edina Macic, Cohost, Z90/San Diego

The Challenge

Z90 was evolving from Rhythmic CHR to Mainstream CHR  and needed a fresh, new show that loved San Diego to be the face of the brand.

Rick Morton was the perfect fit. He had been part of the legendary Jeff & Jer morning show. At the time, he was hosting a morning show in Boise.

The Process

With patience, discipline, and some growing pains, we added cohosts Edina Macic and D-Rock and developed several key tune-in features, highlighted by Rick’s hilarious Phone Jibba prank call airing every hour as a can’t-miss tune-in occasion. As the show evolved, the team earned the right to talk more. PD Randy “RDub” Williams and OM Joe Lindsay slowly reduced the music count.

The Growth

It’s hard to rise to the top in any market. But doing it in San Diego is particularly challenging. The show consistently delivers excellent ratings results, but even more satisfying is how the audience has embraced the show. They are a key factor in Z90’s successful transition to a pop music position with high-profile personalities. Morton In the Morning is solidly established in Stage 3 (Growth) of the Personality Success Path and knocking on the door of Stage 4 (Like).
