In the webinar Take Charge Of Your Future, I showed broadcasters how to increase revenue and branding opportunities. Each is easy to implement and all take advantage of radio’s best quality: Audience engagement. Technology offers radio personalities amazing opportunities to expand their audience and grow their personal brand. That’s why air talent should start a Twitch channel.
Twitch is an Amazon company. It’s has been around since 2011. Many think of it as a weird community of gamers playing Fortnite, and that is how the business became famous. But it’s become so much more.
In fact, the company is developing a strategy to attract more media personalities (especially Sports Talk hosts) to the platform.
Anyone can start a new Twitch community. With a little homework, you could have your own video channel in a day or two. There’s no cost and most personalities already have all the equipment they need to get started.
It’s exciting to see brands grow their audience, but even more rewarding when that turns into new income.
Radio programming veteran Don Kollins made the switch to Twitch a few years ago. He helps personalities develop their channel, build a community of followers and fans, and turn the engagement into money.
I spoke with him about the opportunities for radio personalities:
Income follows engagement, of course. The more active your channel, the more revenue potential. But the upside is impressive. A teenage player earned over $13 million in one year playing Fortnite. Not bad, huh?
You won’t mOn average, expert streamers can make between $3,000 to $5,000 each month playing around 40 hours a week. That specific number doesn’t include ad revenue, which averages about $250 every 100 subscribers. If you put in the time and grow a respectable audience, Twitch can certainly be lucrative.
But for broadcasters with a specific focus, it can be even more attractive. Don can fill you in on all the ways to earn more money on the site.
I’m so impressed with the potential, I’m launching my own Twitch channel in the new year. Watch for details on my new series called The Aircheck Sessions, debuting in January. I’ll be critiquing radio segments in detail to help personalities and programmers grow.
Now is the time for personalities to grow their brand presence and this is one of the ways to consider.
