You ARE Going to Morning Show Boot Camp This Year, RIGHT?

Don Anthony’s Morning Show Boot Camp should be part of your annual training. It’s a tremendous opportunity to meet other personalities and improve your mastery of personality radio. There’s a ton to take away from it, whether you’re a personality or a programmer. If you are serious about your future and your career, it’s something that should be on the agenda.
Okay, I know what you are thinking:
My company won’t pay for it and I can’t afford it. The company won’t even allow talent to take a day off. I have to take vacation time for days missed.
It’s still worth it. It’s your career. It’s your future. Invest in it.
I’ve never found anyone that regrets investing in themselves to go to Boot Camp. And most come back year after year.
It doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In fact, even personalities on a tight budget can make it affordable and enjoy a return on investment for the rest of their lives.
Getting To Morning Show Boot Camp
Drive if you can. It takes longer, but it’s cheaper . If you itemize taxes, you can deduct .55 per mile and actually make money from attending Boot Camp, depending on where you live. Find other personalities to carpool with you to share driving and costs.
Let’s say you drive 800 each way miles to Boot Camp. You get back about $880 back on taxes (1,600 miles x .55 per mile). How much will it cost to drive? A lot less. You may even make enough to pay for the hotel.
If you fly, book the flights early, and shop different airlines. You may have to connect instead of taking a direct flight, but that could save a couple hundred dollars.
When you arrive, don’t just hop in a cab and hand over $50 or more. There are other options to get from the airport to the hotel. Use public transportation if possible. It’s just a few dollars. It’s not as convenient and takes longer, but it may cost $8 or $10 instead of $50.
If you don’t want to lug your bags on public transportation, at least schedule your ride with Uber. It’s more convenient than a cab, and almost always cheaper, sometimes as much as 50% less. And you may be able to find someone to share an Uber to the same hotel, or one nearby.
It’s convenient to stay at the MSBC hotel, but there are cheaper options nearby. Look around and save another 50%. You can probably get a room for $100 a night or so. Sharing a room with one other person cuts your cost in half. Take in two roommates, and you could reduce hotel costs to $33 per night.
You also can stay fewer nights. Boot Camp is on Thursday and Friday. Leave Friday evening instead of Saturday morning. That’s just two nights instead of three. But make sure you get there Wednesday. The sessions start early on Thursday morning, and that opening act is a killer (it’s my presentation on how to build a dominating show in any market size).
Food and drinks can be expensive, but if you’re careful and opportunistic, it’s not that much.
The MSBC registration will include a lunch on both Thursday and Friday, and there’s a Thursday evening cocktail party with snacks.
Beyond that, it’s easy to find inexpensive fast food near the hotel instead of eating in the hotel restaurants. Or, find a nearby market and buy fruit, snacks and drinks to eat in your room!
The point is: You can do this.
It doesn’t have to be expensive. Find a way to get to Boot Camp! If you can take away just one great idea that unlocks your potential, it’s worthwhile.
